🥄The Stir ✨ Pluto-proof

Your weekly dose of practical astrology for real life
Brew #73

🌀 Pluto’s in Aquarius. America’s having her first Pluto Return. We’re barely three months into this 20-year saga, and shit’s already hitting the fan. Now what? 😩

Glad you asked because this email is all about diving into where to source our resilience for the road ahead.

Here's what you'll find in this email
(yes, we have a Table of Contents this week)

  1. Historical Context For Pluto
  2. What We Should Be Prepared For
  3. Present Times (What's Going Down Already)
  4. Why Does Everything Feel So F*cking Weird?
  5. Our Pluto-proof Resilience Plan
  6. What It Means For YOU

Historical Context

Did you see this February 22nd performance by the U.S. Army Chorus at the Governor’s Ball? It was a powerful show of solidarity using art as a mobilizing force. But more than that – it is the rallying call of revolution.

Because when the Army is out here singing about rising up against the government, you know shit is real.

What they sang ⬇️
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of the people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

This is par for the course with not only Pluto in Aquarius, but, more specifically, America’s first Pluto Return.

Pluto in Aquarius is ripping open systems of control (Pluto = destruction, rebirth and power structures; Aquarius = the collective, rebellion, technology). When any planet returns to where it was originally in a birth chart, we call this a Return.

Pluto Returns ensure that progress is possible by forcing the larger systems of human civilizations to evolve which is why empires don’t survive their Pluto Returns. They either fall or they transform.

Just for a bit of context:
The Roman Empire fell during its Pluto Return.

The French Revolution, American Revolution, and Irish Uprising all happened the last time Pluto was in Aquarius. These are examples of empires falling (and the people prevailing). But remember, since Pluto is a planet of transformation, empires can also rise out of the turbulent waters of Pluto’s domain.

For example:
👑 England unified during one of its first Pluto Returns (in Gemini) in the year 927 CE.

👑 In 1462, Ivan The Great became ruler of Russia, vastly expanding its territory — which also happened to be the year of Russia’s Pluto Return (in Leo).

👑 Finally, Spain unified in the year 1479 when King Ferdinand II of Aragorn became king along with his wife, Queen Isabella of Castile. Together, the two most prominent kingdoms of the Iberian peninsula became one (you guessed it) the year of Spain’s Pluto Return (in Virgo).

So basically, Pluto Returns are practically guaranteed to be radically changing times. And Pluto’s transformation isn’t happening in a vacuum here…

It’s colliding with something even bigger.

What Else Is At Play

The thing I’m keeping my eye on the most is how Pluto’s energy (death, rebirth, power) is clashing with the Aquarian energy at play. On top of that, there’s a rot in our soil that can no longer be ignored (and I’m not even talking about the microplastics). Pluto rules death (he’s literally the god of Death in Roman mythology, aka Hades in Greek mythology) – and America has risen to power through the efficient industrialization of death.

If we were a nation that had Pluto in Scorpio (the sign of death), I could see how it would fit. But again…we have Pluto in Aquarius: a progressive, forward-thinking humanitarian sign of growth and evolution.

Aquarius is not an archetype that will abide the monetized bloodlust of a ruling class. Certainly not at the cost to the citizens who actively dream of a better, cleaner, more just future.

The Aquarian in me is left to consider: at what point did we stray from our vision for America? When did we start selling our soul in the form of war profiteering (hint: we were doing it during WWII so the decay runs deeper than you think).

We're at a real crossroads of either reinventing democracy or watching it rot.

So What’s Going Down Already

It’s a lot. You’re not imagining it, and you’re not overreacting. Ever since Pluto entered Aquarius in November 2024, we’ve been watching the Cheeto-In-Chief issue an onslaught of gut-wrenching executive orders. To preserve both my nervous system in writing this and yours in reading, here’s a quick hit list that is by no means exhaustive:

  • Slashing public programs, gutting the environment for corporate profit, and fueling extremist propaganda.
  • The war on women: The attack on bodily autonomy is escalating—states pushing for the death penalty for abortion seekers.
  • Public workers being villainized: The very people holding our systems together are being dismantled and blamed for the mess.

Why Does Everything Feel So F*cking Weird? There’s a Name For That.

Just calling it out: that feeling of why the f*ck do I still have to go to work or market my business when the world feels like it’s falling apart – that’s a REAL feeling AND it has a name.

It’s called hypernormalization and it was coined by Russian historian Alexei Yurchak during the final days of the Soviet Union to describe the vibe before its imminent collapse. The definition describes hypernormalization as “the acceptance of a distorted reality by a society or individual.”

So yeah, it’s weird – there’s a name for it, and you’re not crazy.

But how do we move forward from here? I’ve got answers!

Our Pluto Proof Resilience Plan

The question isn’t will the U.S. collapse? It’s who gets to rebuild it?

I know the news cycle is hard to bear, but if we don’t stay plugged in,
this shit rebuilds itself in an even uglier form.

So how do we stay in-the-know without burning out? How do we stay present for the rebuild?

Actually…when do we get to start??

If stars have taught me how to shine + how to withstand burning…then it is the Earth that has taught me how to root down, stand strong, and withstand the violent forces that thrash against us.

Do you know what is one of the most important aspects of a healthy forest? It is the same necessary agent that helps to regrow the proudest trees after wildfires, controlled burns, and deforesting.

Mushrooms. 🍄 More specifically, the mycelial network — which is the vast, underground network of roots. Technically, mushrooms are just the fruiting body that pop up above ground after the network has long-been established. 🤓

Just like nature, the same is true of people (we are not separate, afterall).

In times of chaos, the strongest networks are underground.
Mushrooms teach us how to resist. A mycelial network is unseen, but it thrives beneath the surface, connecting, supporting, and ensuring survival. That’s what we must do now.

This is the part where I tell you that we don’t win this fight alone.

The mycelial network is two-fold:

Step 1: Before you can resist, you need to be rooted.

Find your gifts and root into your rhythms so you can stay grounded during these turbulent times. It's gonna get darker before we see the light actually break through. Ensure you're doing resilience building practices (I have resources to help with this like Big 3 Breakdown and a workshop I'm hosting locally this Saturday).

Step 2: You GOTTA get connected.

Find your dang people. I don't care if it starts as a knitting circle or a mom's night out. Start having conversations, start feeling out the people around you. We stand together or we hang separately. We have to find beauty to hold onto and we have to start seeing it in one another.

Also recognize, while this is urgent work, this is also slow work. This is restful work. This isn't hustle work. Mycelial networks aren’t formed overnight and they’re not supposed to be.

Deep roots take time. Give yourself the grace and permission to do the same.

Do what feels fun and follow the breadcrumbs to your joy, you'll find your people there. 💕

What It Means For You

Pluto is your inner alchemist, the part of you that sees the shadows, works with destruction, and rises from the ashes. This isn’t just about surviving chaos—it’s about learning to wield power wisely.

To personalize your resilience strategy:

💡 Step 1: Find your natal Pluto placement by house.
This is your X-ray vision superpower—where you’ve already been trained by life to see through illusions and navigate intensity. You’ve been doing Pluto work here your whole life.

💡 Step 2: Find Aquarius in your birth chart.
This is where you need AND offer support—your mycelial network, the area of life where you’re both seeking and bringing collective resilience.

Pluto tells you where your power is.
Aquarius tells you where to plug into the collective.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW 🪐

WHAT’S COMING NEXT 🌛

The Sun enters Taurus on Saturday, April 19th, sending us into the Season of the Bull. Fear not, if you're needing rest after the cleansing burn and fiery breakthroughs of Aries season —Taurus season promises steady (sustainable!) growth that leaves plenty of time to rest and smell the flowers, too. Prepare for more grounded, stabilizing energy this next season!

Pluto will be going retrograde in Aquarius starting May 4th, 2025 and lasting until October 13th. We’ll have an entire issue of The Stir coming out regarding this however, be prepared to review, revisit, and reflect on themes of power and transformation – both on a personal and collective level over this period of time. Additionally, we have a Full Moon in Scorpio happening Monday, May 12th that will be a review, release, and harvesting of whatever has been growing (or festering) since November.
